San Francisco in the summer

  1. Hi Tara I’ve enjoyed your posts over the last few years so thank you! Just want to let you know that our family is no longer going to be travelling to the US with the recent election resulting in another Trump administration. Although Vermont has always been welcoming and liberal to our queer family we all know that Trump’s last tenure not only put our family at risk should we need medical attention but his tenure also sparked great intolerance towards LGBTQ+ ppl in general. Travelling to a state that celebrates us and not just tolerates us is key to our family adventures and the inconsistencies between states has become too intense. Our family and friends have all decided to no longer travel to the United States. Good luck with your journeys.

  2. Hello – Have you ever considered tromping around Beaver Island, Michigan? Beaver Island is located roughly 20 miles off the northern Michigan coastline in Lake Michigan. You can reach the island by ferry or air, there is a small public school K- 12 and wonderful small group of Islanders – in the summer the island population triples or more with vacationers. It is very much like Vermont without the mountains…. 🙂

  3. Tara, I think you wrote an article on using shortcuts to delay text messages on iPhone on another platform. There was no way to comment on the article and no contact info so I found you here. I just wanted to let you know that the article was very helpful, and thank you. Not sure how else you would know that people are reading what you write and are appreciative. That’s it. Thanks!

Where can I get a highway map and descriptions of water falls in the Finger Lake part of New York? And a highway map of scenic roads in the Finger Lakes? Planning a 12-14 day trip in May, 2023…. two days to get to Niagara falls from Virginia, 2-3 days at the falls, 5-6 days in the Finger Lakes, and 2 days to drive back. mid 70’s couple, short hikes on easy trails, BNB, small inns lodging. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks….

I am really upset that you are profiling a nature reserve where I live, we have a big issue with transients and the last thing we need are more people coming around here and stiring up dust and trashing the place. I hate site likes your as there are too many people looking to live in these areas and the local taxpayers are left to clean up the mess.

    1. I’m sorry that you feel that way, but promoting sustainable tourism and the outdoors is not what is causing the issues taxpayers face.

Hi! Read your account of your venture into the Finger Lakes. So glad you enjoyed yourself. I, in turn, enjoyed reading your account. You also surprised me by mentioning a vineyard I was unaware of and it’s less than an hour away. Thank you.

For future reference, the Finger Lakes are in Upstate NY, not Western NY. Upstate is further divided into Western (formerly Niagara Frontier), Finger Lakes, Central, Southern Tier, Capital Area, North Country, Hudson Valley/Leatherstocking Region, and Downstate (which is further divided).

I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and hope you return because there is so much here besides endless waterfalls, gorges, lakes, streams, hills, and forests. For my part, I’m looking forward to exploring more of beautiful Vermont.
    Happy traveling!

Love your email newsletters/blogs. A great function to add to your blog is the ability to print one of your articles. Thanks for this consideration.

  8. Hello and thank you for providing such a great blog / webpage.
I am wondering if you remember where exactly the Overlook view of the Astor-Megler bridge is. The view looks great, but without your guidance, I don’t think I could find it.
    Thank you, Anke
